New Years' 3 club challenge, Castle Park Golf Club, Gifford, 2/1/15

On a cold and windy 2nd of January, 11 brave and hardy souls took to the fairways of Castle Park Golf Course near Gifford in varying states of dress and fancy dress. Arriving in the clubhouse between 9 and 9.30am we were treated to delicious bacon rolls, with tea and coffee. Everyone thought that Mair had taken the prize for best dressed golfer when he arrived in his kilt, turtleneck and waistcoat combo, but he was unceremoniously usurped by Sutherland who arrived on the first tee in a penguin costume!
Closest to the pin was a tricky contest in the wind with nobody making it on to the 7th green, however Lowe was closest to the green and as he had bought the prizes decided to keep that one for himself!
Longest drive was contested on the 10th hole after many had consumed thier can of Greenalls Gin and Tonic, longest on the day was Zibkowski.
The conditions were some of the worst that any of the Homersapiens had ever played in with 3 snow/hail/sleet storms sweeping across the course throughout the morning. Many photos were taken but none really did justice to the conditions.
We all made it back to the clubhouse for a delicious 3 course lunch of soup, steak pie, lasagna, veggies and cheesecake for dessert, all washed down with more tea and coffee, before the scores were added up and the Quaich awarded. Joint winners this year were McFarlane and Zibkowski with a stableford score of 29 points.
The hospitality of the Castle Park Golf Club was outstanding and I am sure that we will be making a return to their course on the 2nd of January 2016, if not sooner for a mid-summer challenge with a full set of clubs this time (hopefully)!
