Seven hardy souls took to the rolling parkland of Bruntsfield Links after the Easter service for a medal match. Ryan Sales, playing in his first medal, was given a generous handicap of 28 and right from the start his accurate irons and solid short game saw him rack up points. In the other group Mair was playing sublime golf, 3 over after 13 holes and his partnership with MacFarlane was destroying the Appleson Lowe pairing. Somehow Mair managed to talk himself into a bad run of form, their lead dwindled and they headed to the 18th only 1 up. Appleson and Lowe played their second shots to within 10 feet and Mair completely fell to pieces shanking his way up the 18th fairway. MacFarlane is made of strong stuff, however, and he sunk a 20 footer to ensure that victory was secured. All in all an excellent afternoon and a well deserved victory for Sales.
